Summary

On today's episode of How 2 Tuesday I am testing one of Instagram's most viral knots! This is a knot that I stumbled upon a while ago that intrigued me due to its similarity to another one of my favorite knots. But is it any good? Is it BETTER? Find out now! Hey everybody, welcome to How To Tuesday, brought to you by Danco pliers. We are back at the tying bench,

0:05.8

going through Instagram videos, looking at these knot videos that are incredibly popular, and then

0:11.3

putting them to the test. Because the only way that you can really know is to actually tie them

0:15.9

and test them on a machine. Most of the knots, the common thread with the Instagram videos, is that they show you

0:22.6

how to tie the knot, but then they say something like it's a very strong knot, or it's a very good

0:27.1

knot, or it's a better knot than this knot, or that knot. How will you really know? The only way

0:31.7

you'll really know is to test it. Control the controllable, that's the way you become a better

0:36.2

angler, and that's what we're doing today.

0:38.5

This knot is from one called underscore CTR Fishing. This one has 1,173,221 plays and it is essentially a lefty-cra cray non-slip mono loop.

0:54.8

But instead of just doing a single overhand,

0:57.7

you do a double overhand to start

0:59.7

or you go through the overhand twice,

1:01.6

which will make a figure eight if you pull it tight

1:03.4

or you can just do it like this.

1:05.3

We tied this knot and it came out at 74%.

1:10.4

So we tied it with 15 pound, Diowa, J. Floro, tied the knot, tested it on the

1:16.9

machine, and it broke at 11.11 pounds, which is 74%. So I'm giving this knot a big F because the

1:27.0

Lefty Cray non-slip mono loop is one of my favorite knots

1:30.2

for bonefish flies and any other light leader type loop knot. And it is known to be a 95 to 100%

1:38.2

knot. So putting the extra turn in the overhand knot is not giving this knot more strength. It's actually taking strength away.

1:47.5

Those are my findings. Will you use this knot? Are you one of the one million people that have

1:52.0

seen this and will now tie this knot this way? Are you sticking to the original lefty craye non-slip
