Many new technologies are sold to us with the promise that we will be freed from menial

tasks.

Dishwashers, dryers, tractors, word processors are just a few of the many inventions that

have made our lives easier, reducing the amount of backbreaking labor involved in necessary

chores and leaving us more time for things also worthwhile, like

learning, creating, and enjoying relationships. But what happens when our technology promises

to, quote-unquote, free us from even those worthwhile activities that we've been freed up to do?

That's one of the many questions we now face in this age of artificial intelligence.
