You guys, when I was a little girl, my favorite hobby was reading,

well, and drawing. And I would spend an immense amount of time doing both. And

guess what I mostly read and drew? Horses!

I often immersed myself in the worlds between the covers of those books.

I loved, well, I loved all kinds of books,

but my very favorite stories always had horses in them. Well one of my favorite authors was Marguerite Henry,

the author of Mustang Wild Spirit of the West and Misty of Chinkotigue, and many other stories about horses.

I still own some of those books I picked up for 25 cents at a library sale when I was a little girl. I knew these books

were based on true stories and that's actually one of the biggest reasons that I loved them. I knew that they were part of history.

But you know what? It wasn't until recently that I've realized that Mustang, Wild Spirit of the West was Marguerite Henry's telling of a real woman who had earned

the name Wild Horse Annie. This realization made me really happy and

so I'm so excited to tell you her story. Wild Horse Annie's real name was Velma Braun Johnson.
