It was March of 2004 and seven months had passed since the bush boys showed up in my hometown.

In the seven months, the town had rallied, the media had circused, but now things were kind of quiet.

The only people really talking about the bush boys would be the senior citizens.

They'd see them acting strange downtown around the natural food store and call the police and say,

I saw some youths, there's two of them, one of them's too skinny.

They're always together, you never part, you're always together.

Corporal Henry Prosa was the cop fielding most of these calls.

And it's true, the boys were always together all those seven months.

But now, for once, they weren't.

Because Will, the 16 year old, was in the back of Prosa's police car.

I think he literally think he was within days or weeks of starving himself to death.

He was that bad, like he could even walk.

He was just shuffling around.

Will's health had declined to the point where Prosa had invoked Canada's mental health act to bring him into custody.

And now they were headed to the one place Will had been singularly focused on avoiding all these months.
