My daughter was married recently, and I remember that line in the ceremony where the minister says,

if anyone has reason, you know, to protest to the union of the span of his wife.

Let him speak now or forever hold his peace.

Now, these wedding ceremonies really have their Old Testament and their scriptural basis.

I didn't realize the extent to which that's true.

You know, you come down the aisle, right down the middle, and the congregation is sitting on the right and on the left.

Well, it's symbolic of the Abrahamic covenant, where Abraham came and walked up and down in the middle of the two parts of a sacrifice.

And so there's a lot of symbolism,

but this line about speak now or forever hold your peace

actually comes from the Old Testament,

where if a father hears a daughter making a vow

regarding something and he doesn't speak up,

then the vow shall be held.

Why? Because your silence is your consent.

And then Bill Federer, this great, powerful reformer, educator, teacher that is part of the courage to our faculty we had.

He's like a walking Hillsdale college curriculum, this guy. He lays it down,

boom, that you're being silent in the eyes of God and scripture when you see certain things

happening in your nation is a form of your tacit agreement, approval, and endorsement, because your silence is consent.
