Summary
How often has a seemingly simple disagreement with a narcissist turned into a big production? Narcissists are known for out-of-proportion anger in response to circumstances that could otherwise be managed cleanly. Dr. Les Carter describes the phenomenon called "narcissistic injury." Narcissists carry a great deal of emotional pain inside, but because they are committed to maintaining a False Self, they are unable to discuss problems logically. When they are triggered by you, that pain rises to the surface, prompting the narcissist to attack in the same way a wounded animal does. Your task is to understand what is in play so you don't become engaged in their unresolved inner tensions.
