Good fight. That's the name of our summer real men Bible study will be

going verse by verse through 1 Timothy. You and me up here in the mountains

real informal casual 12 weeks looking at an older man named Paul building up

and investing in a younger man named Timothy teaching him how to be a man of

God and fight a good fight. I'll tell you in a day when the world has lost its

mind and everything's going to hell. A few men need to learn how to fight. I'll

right guys welcome back to our real men summer Bible study on 1 Timothy good

fight where we teach men of God how to quote unquote fight the good fight. That's

what Paul tells Timothy. We're going to look at 12 commands. This week is command

number two avoid apostates. So we're going to talk about apostasy and that's

where Paul's going in his instructions to Timothy. An apostate is someone

who's a betrayer. They're a double agent in the ancient Greek world. The word

was used in war and battle. It's also used in the New Testament where let's say

for example you joined the army you went through boot camp you got deployed

with your unit. You'd been drilling together prepping together you know

getting ready together you get deployed you're out on the front line. It's time

of battle. You can see the enemy on the horizon. The engagement is coming. You're

feeling the anxiety the stress. It's time for war and battle. One of the guys

in your platoon pops up out of a secure position and runs into the field of

combat. Your first thought is oh no he's a dead man. This guy is committing

suicide and then you're kind of shocked. They don't shoot at him. They don't
