So right away we should take note that the term sports entertainment has actually been

around for quite a while.

I think Vince McMahon first dropped it back in 1989 when he was talking to the New Jersey

Commission and say, look, you don't need to make us pay all this extra money because

we're a sport, because we're not a sport, we're da da da, sports entertainment.

So we are coming on 30 years, but as long as I'm concerned, it really came on to

its own when WWE took the company public and then did so again after they said goodbye

TV 14, we're going to become TV PG and the reason they did all of this is because they wanted

more sponsorships, they wanted more licenses and they just wanted a big bag of cash.

But basically, McMahon thought it sounded much more friendlier than the smoke filled bars

that many people associated pro wrestling with.

And what you have to do is go back to many a promotion from a yesterday and see them

taking place in massive arenas, but hey, stereotype is a stereotype, sometimes you can't get away

from it.
