from Valentine's Day, but it's just as relevant now as it was then. Kristin Godsee is a professor

of Russian and East European studies and a member of the Graduate Group in Anthropology

at the University of Pennsylvania. She's an award-winning ethnographer and author specializing

in the lived experience of socialism and post-socialism in Eastern Europe. She has written nine books and

her scores of articles and essays have been translated into over a dozen languages and have appeared

in publications such as Foreign Affairs, Jacobin the World Policy Journal, The New Republic,

Ms. Magazine, The Washington Post, The Lancet, and The New York Times. Her books include The Red

Ruby Era, Gender Tourism and Post-socialism on the Black Sea, The Left Side of History, World War

2, and The Unfulfilled Promise of Communism in Eastern Europe, Red Hangover Legacies of 20th

Century Communism, and her most recent book, Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism and Other
