0:00.0 | Father Mike, you've been involved with the Bible in your podcast. You've done the |
0:08.3 | Catechism in your podcast. And we're going to be able to jump into this first pillar of the |
0:12.3 | catechism here on the profession of faith, which is something a lot of Catholics have familiarity |
0:16.6 | with, right? They hear the profession of faith, the creed that we recited every Mass. They recite it |
0:21.4 | every Sunday. But some people may wonder, why do I have to keep saying this thing over and over? |
0:25.6 | I still believe from last week. My beliefs haven't really changed. Why do we have to recite the |
0:29.0 | creed over and over again Sunday after Sunday? That's such a great question. Why repeat ourselves |
0:33.2 | all those times? I think the main reason is because we tend to forget. So if you go back to the |
0:39.2 | Bible, one of the things you'll notice if you're reading through the story of salvation is that |
0:43.9 | the story is repeated again and again. Like say the story of here is the people of Israel who are |
0:49.3 | enslaved in Egypt. And so they tell the story over and over again of we were slaves at one point. |
0:53.2 | Then God came to our rescue. He set us free. he let us through the wilderness, he took care of us. |
0:58.0 | And this is, they repeat themselves over and over again. |
1:00.0 | It's not like, and not as if they've never heard the story, but it's just that it's so easy to forget the story. |
1:05.0 | And so similarly for ourselves, of course I know that God is three persons, Father's from Holy Spirit. |
1:11.3 | Of course, I know that he made this world good. |
1:13.3 | Of course, I know all these things. |
1:15.8 | But, you know, in a broken world, in a world that's full of sadness, a world full of loss |
1:20.8 | and challenges and all their voices, I can tend to forget those things that I knew are true. |
1:26.0 | And so we keep reciting this creed because a lot of times, you know, have said like this, |
1:31.3 | so easy, it's so easy to forget in the darkness what I knew was true in the light. |
1:36.3 | And so every Sunday we come back to Mass, we come back to the creed and we recite this saying, |
