And if you've been listening to the personal finance

podcast for any amount of time at all, you know that I constantly talk about

increasing your income. And the reason why I talk about increasing your income is because it's going to allow you to increase your savings rate and increase the amount of money that you allocate towards your financial future.

Because what a lot of financial gurus tell you

is to cut back on certain things.

And that's all good and well.

You can always cut back on things.

But the only things you really want to cut back on

and the only things that human nature will allow you to cut back on are things that don't bring you value.

And so what we're going to talk about today is when you do cut those things out, when you do cut out the things that don't bring you value

you're actually buying freedom for your future. You're buying time back so that you

can allocate your time to do whatever you want in your life. So as you hear me talking about increasing your income,

understand this. Your savings rate matters. In fact, it may be one of the most important metrics you can

track to make sure you're on path to financial independence.

If you want to retire early, you have to understand your savings rate.
