Welcome to In The Bubble with Andy Slavitt. Andrew McCabe, the former director of the FBI is here today.

As a recent senior member of the Justice Department, we thought we'd sit down with Andrew and explore the indictment against Donald Trump.

I'm really interested in trying to understand three important things. First, why was the indictment brought?

To take the criticism for a second from Trump and his supporters, this is a quote unquote, weaponization of the Justice Department.

Now, Andrew has sat through a number of recent cases, including the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.

He'd be the perfect person to try to help us make heads or tails of what this evidence suggests here and what might be similar and different between Trump's indictment and the investigations into Hillary and investigations into the documents found in Biden's garage and Mike Pence's garage.

So that's important first verse. Second thing that I really want to explore with Andrew is the rhetoric itself that is emerging from Trump and his supporters around the accusation that Joe Biden is using the Justice Department to attack a political opponent.

Now, there may be a few things that work here, not the least of which is some of the historic projection we've seen from Trump who you may recall himself tried to fire.

The entire leadership team with the Justice Department when they wouldn't support him in overturning the 2020 election.

You may also wonder why Joe Biden, a determined institutionalist, would be motivated to do something like that.

But nevertheless, let's talk to Andrew about that and how we should be thinking about these attacks on the Justice Department.

And finally, I'd like to discuss the case itself and what's ahead, the judge, the jury, the evidence, the timing, sentencing requirements and all that.

So there's really nobody better that we could think of than Andrew to have this conversation with. And so we're lucky to have him in a bubble with us. So let's go.
