Good morning! It's three minutes after ten, and you are listening to James O'Brien on LBC.

I've had a bit of a crisis of confidence. I hope you don't mind me confiding in you this morning.

But we've obviously spent the last six or seven years being completely right about everything from Brexit to Boris Johnson to Jacob Rees-Mogg, to Jeremy Corbyn, to Nadine Doris to 30P Lee.

All of these chickens have come home to roost.

But I think we've made a fairly grave error throughout all of that period.

I think that the question of, and I really came into focus for me during COVID, or rather I think we were at our worst during COVID. And when we would spend hours some weeks, wrestling with the question of whether or not there was some sort of sinister master plan.

You know, we discovered subsequently the whiteboard with let the bodies pile high on it

and the sort of almost quasi-ugenicist approach that was reportedly contemplated in Downing Street.

And then that curious moment on morning television when Johnson talked about letting it

run through the population. And there was an almost sort of Kremlin-esque conspiracy subsequently

to pretend that he hadn't said that at all. And then you had that suspension of normal standards

because you felt in a time of national emergency, you have little choice

but to put your faith in the government, even if it's a government led by Johnson and Cummings.

Good grief. And we spent a lot of time during that period, wondering whether there was some

sort of sinister master plan.

And I look back now, and I think we gave them far too much credit.

It was probably Dominic Cummings' fault, because he sort of cultivated this image as a super brain,

as some sort of wonk.

And yet, really, he has a proper study of vote leaves antics during

Brexit shows, really. He was just another nativist provocateur. But he thinks he's Albert Einstein.

And that perhaps is why we fell into the trap of thinking there was some sort of master plan and we
