One day, a troubled team member knocks on the door of his boss's office.

He asks if he can come in to get some guidance.

The boss invites him in, the team member sits down and starts complaining, complaining how

the other team members don't like him, how they won't trust him, how they won't assign

him any of the vital tasks and how they don't invite him to the important meetings.

He asks if the boss would speak with them about it.

After the boss listens, and tentally, she asks the team member to join her on a walk.

They walk to a pond that's in the middle of the office campus.

The boss asks the team member to toss a stone into the center of the pond.

The team member does it.

Now, she says, as the ripples come closer to the edge, stick your finger in the water

to try to stop the ripples.

The team member tries, but the ripples just keep moving outward.

The confused team member looks at his boss and says, I can't, it's impossible to stop

the ripples.

The boss smiles and asks, so, you cannot stop the ripples?

Correct, said the team member, well, neither can I, said the boss.

I cannot stop the ripples that you have created.
