When people say deep in the heart of Texas, they're talking about places like Kerr County. It's in the southern part of the state, an hour from San Antonio, three hours from Austin.

Cutting through it is the Guadalupe River on its way toward the Gulf.

And if you talk to locals, there's no nicer way to spend a long weekend than on the river,

which is what families around this area were doing on July 4th weekend as storm clouds gathered.

That's when it started raining.
