There's another Supreme Court confirmation hearing this week and the court itself continues

to play a large and some might even argue outside's role in our country. So I thought it

might be good to go back and reflect on where we were the last time this process unfolded.

The last Supreme Court confirmation process that we went through, what we learned and what

our expectations are now. Do you ever wonder how the Supreme Court became such a cultural

battleground? If we ask most of our fellow citizens to name all current eight members of

the Supreme Court, do you think they could? If we ask them to cite significant Supreme

Court opinions authored by the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, do you think most Americans could?

And if they could tell us the result of those opinions or the conclusions reached, could

they tell us what analysis, which analysis she used to reach those conclusions? In other

words, what was her judicial philosophy? When you hear terms like judicial activism or

judicial restraint, what do you think? When you hear nominees described as textualist

or originalist or minimalist, do you believe you have affirmed grasp on what those terms
