Mount Washington.

At 6,288 feet or 1,917 meters tall in a country home to the Rockies, the Cierras, and

the Alaskan giants, it's almost difficult to even call it a mountain.

But Mount Washington is deceptive.

In fact, it's no exaggeration to say that Mount Washington experiences some of the worst conditions

not just in the U.S. but anywhere on Earth.

It's for this reason that it actually has the record for the most fatalities per vertical foot of any mountain on the planet.

These are the disturbing instance of the most dangerous small mountain in the United States.

As always, viewer discretion is advised. Mount Washington, located in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains in New Hampshire doesn't look like a killer.

meters tall, it barely clears what many people would even call a mountain, at least in parts

of the country that boasts the Rockies, the Sierras, and the Alaskan giants. By all appearances,

Mount Washington looks like a manageable day trip, a big hill you can knock up before lunch and

still be back in time for a meal somewhere in quaint, cozy New Hampshire. But as the saying

goes, appearances can be deceiving. Since 1849, Mount Washington has racked up a body count

that seems abnormally high for its seemingly unimpressive conditions. With more than 160 known

fatalities and hundreds of rescues every decade, Mount

Washington is actually so deceptively dangerous that it holds the title of the mountain

with the most deaths per vertical foot in the world. This is even stranger when you consider

that at the summit, there are several buildings and a tourist information desk all seeming

so harmless. And yet, not far from the tourist information desk, there's a framed poster that quietly hints the danger.

It's a list titled Casualties of Mount Washington was named stretching back almost two centuries.
