Summary

They tell me that the internet is where religion goes to die, but they also tell me the internet is full of poor research and unreasonable arguments. We are going to get pretty technical today. Lots of different threads of evidence will be explained and drawn together to support the factuality of the burial of Jesus by Joseph of Arimathea. This may seem like it's not a big deal if you haven't recognized the evidential value of the burial and empty tomb for the historicity of the resurrection of Jesus. I'll be drawing from the work of a number of different scholars (Craig Evans is particularly helpful) and responding to the work of Dr. Bart Ehrman, who has influenced countless people to reject the resurrection of Christ. This is part 67 of the Mark Series, going verse-by-verse through the Gospel of Mark. Today we are in Mark 15:42-46. All right, I'm going to explain some stuff today that is a little complicated and can be

0:11.4

a little bit involved and a little confusing potentially.

0:14.3

So I hope and have been praying that I would have wisdom on how to explain it well and

0:17.6

simply without, you know, dumbing it down, right, to explain it well, but without dumbing

0:22.5

it down.

0:23.5

That's my goal.

0:24.5

You know, they tell me that the internet is where religion goes to die.

0:27.8

Have you heard that before?

0:28.8

Because I've spent a lot of time dealing with skeptics and non-believers and people

0:33.2

who are on the fence on the internet.

0:35.3

They tell me the internet is where religion goes to die, but they also tell me that the

0:38.8

internet is full of low-quality research and poor argumentation.

0:42.9

Yep.

0:43.9

That's what I want to say.

0:48.8

And let's talk about a specific example of this.

0:52.9

If you can successfully refute the resurrection of Jesus, like you have refuted Christianity.

0:57.8

Like Christianity literally does stand or fall in the resurrection of Christ.

1:01.4

This historical claim that he bodily rose from the dead.

1:04.7

That is so central that there just is no true Christianity apart from that claim, right?

1:10.5

There's all sorts of peripheral things about Christianity that you might say, okay, well

1:14.6

this, I've changed my mind on this, I've changed my mind on that, but not the resurrection

1:18.5

man.
