Why does progress feel so shitty sometimes?

I know that when I'm taking action, when I refuse to stop, I'll certainly take a pause or a break, but when I stay at

something, when I chip away, when the progress is there materially, but I don't feel good about it.

I don't feel like throwing my hands up in the air and celebrating why I can't just enjoy

every tiny victory when it comes to progress, maybe just like you, is because it looks

messy. It looks shitty. If you have ever been a baker or a chef of any kind just at home,

hey, look, maybe you're an incredible chef. Let's get to know each other. I love to eat. But if

you've ever made anything, cookies, a cake, some fancy fish dish, you know that there are ingredients that are

involved. Right. Think about it is it is as simple as this. And what's true of one thing is true of

another thing. If I am baking a cake, it is cracking eggs, right, shells everywhere. There is butter,

there is milk, there is sugar, spill it everywhere, flour everywhere. But once we get the right

mix, right, get the right concoction, get it all together with the right ratios and put it in the

oven and at the right temperature, give it time,

we have a cake. Right, the cake doesn't take a long time to come together. Once it's in the

oven, it's bacon. It's on its way. But everything that leads up to that moment doesn't look good.

Your apron's dirty. There might be stuff all over the kitchen

counter. There's a mess for you to clean up. It's not this perfect looking Martha Stewart show

that leads to this gorgeous outcome. It's breaking eggs. It's getting your hands dirty. It's

tidying up. It's questioning yourself, it's triple

checking the recipe and getting it done. The reason you're so hot on yourself when it comes to

progress is because it doesn't look good yet. It doesn't look good until the final moment.
