0:09.0	In the time it takes to get to work, I'm Patrick Miller. There was a foreign exchange student from India
0:15.3	staying with a family in England. He intentionally chose to stay with a
0:18.3	Christian family because he himself wasn't a Christian. He read the sermon on the
0:22.4	mount and he found Jesus really interesting
0:24.4	so he thought this might be a good chance to learn more. The family he stayed with was, in fact, in a lot of ways, very
0:30.3	devout. They went to church every Sunday. They prayed before every meal. He
0:35.0	joined them for worship. Members of the family read the Bible and prayed every
0:39.1	morning. So right now you're probably thinking this was a transformative experience right? You're probably thinking, this was a transformative experience, right?
0:44.8	Wrong.
0:45.8	You see, the family wasn't just committed to going to church.
0:49.0	They were committed to constantly fighting and bickering.
0:52.2	The husband was often unkind to his wife. He would
0:54.5	upbraid her if the house wasn't clean when he got home. If she didn't have a meal
0:58.1	ready for him on the table, he took it as a constant offense. The wife, for her
1:02.4	part, was highly critical of everybody around her.
1:05.2	She never showed patience with her kids. Instead, she laid into them for every small infraction.
1:10.4	And the kids, well, they weren't much better either.
1:12.7	They said unkind things about their classmates and disrespected their parents with regularity.
1:17.6	What about family meals?
1:18.6	Well, they usually ended up as gossip sessions.
1:21.6	They talked about neighbors and coworkers and friends with delighted judgment.
