We have a big episode today because free agency begins in the NFL at noon.

The Jets and the 31 other teams are all allowed to begin negotiating with guys who are about to hit free agency and who are with other teams.

But before that deadline, the Jets struck a big contract agreement with Jamie and Sherwood.

Sherwood stays in New York on a three-year deal worth

$45 million. 30 million of that is guaranteed. So essentially, it guarantees Sherwood will be

with the Jets for two seasons. It's a big contract. I mean, this is top 10 linebacker money

for Jamie and Sherwood. And I have to tell you, you have a pleasantly surprised host on today's episode because I really did not think it was going to work out with Jamie and Sherwood. It just felt like there were going to be lots of incentives for him to hit the market and the Jets are able to strike a deal with him. Now, this is a very expensive contract. And I don't think that this is a slam dunk in either way, whether you want to say it's a good deal or a bad deal.

I think there are arguments to be made either way.

I don't think you can argue that Sherwood's four years in the league, at least what he's accomplished to date,

justify a contract that will be $15 million a year that will make him one of the 10 highest paid linebackers.

So I understand from that end, if you're a little bit uneasy about this deal.

But the way I view it is this.

In free agency, you have to take calculated risks.
