1:07.0	Not surprisingly, it involves a personal story. A few years back, I attended a conference where I learned about meningitis from Jamie Shanbaum, a GSK spokesperson and meningitis survivor, and her mother,
1:13.4	Patsy. The spirit of these two women is simply amazing. Jamie was 20 years old and a college student
1:20.4	when she was rushed to a hospital and diagnosed with meningitis. Jamie survived, but the infection
1:26.0	led to amputation of her legs and fingers. Despite these
1:29.8	losses, Jamie has basically crushed life since recovering from the disease. She's an advocate for
1:35.3	meningitis vaccination, worked to pass Texas Senate Bill 819, the Jamie Schaumbom Act, that
1:41.3	requires meningitis vaccination for college students in Texas and performed on the USA
1:46.2	Paralympic cycling team in 2011. I mean, honestly, what? So awesome. I was so moved by Jamie and
1:54.7	Patsy's story that while I was at this conference, I texted my husband to ask him to check that one of our
1:59.7	kids, who was in the age
2:01.0	range for the ACWY vaccination, had received the vaccine, and I made sure to ask about her
2:07.3	meningitis B vaccine at her last well visit. But that's the thing. I had to ask, and I've talked to a lot
