Masayu Jiri, the Dallas Maverick's new GM, President

Basketball Operations, alternate governor, whatever you want to call it.

I'm here in a remote location in Utah.

And I will tell you where I am because if you can find me, you're maybe the geogesser person, like absolutely insane if you could find me. And if you hear wind, it's because I'm doing this outside as we are not able to get into the Airbnb yet. And so I am here outside. And that is the winds of change that you hear from the Dallas Mavericks. Masai Ujiri hired by the Dallas Mavericks. I want to talk about why Maasai. I want to talk about who he is. I want to talk about how this actually happened because I think there are a couple key things with the Dallas Mavericks. Reasons why they got this done. The wins. The wins coming through. Masay Jiri. Shams Sharania, Tim, Tim McMahon, both came in and reported this story and saying that he got hired as the president of basketball operations. And then also the alternate governor, this is a title that a lot of different figures have in basketball, that they can go represent the governor in the owner's meetings and things like that. And so, you know, Mark Cuban was the guy that always represented the Mavericks before. Now, Masai Jiri can go represent. There are other people that have this title as well. That I'll

get into a little bit later when I talk about how they actually got this done. But why? The Dallas Mavericks wanted a few things when it came to their president of basketball operations, their GM, the person, basically making the decisions for the Mavericks when it came to deciding basketball things.

They wanted a splashy hire.

We kept hearing that over and over.

They wanted somebody splashy hire. We kept hearing

that over and over. They wanted somebody that would come in and make a splash to both the fans,

you and to the rest of the NBA, the rest of the league, to say, hey, we are not just this laughing

stock that made this Luca trade that looks really stupid. Then we had to put our tail between our legs, go trade Anthony Davis, and now he may get traded again, and all that stuff. We want to go prove that we're actually a real franchise, that we should be able to get free agents, that people should come take us seriously and all that. They wanted to do that and make a splashy hire to make their case to the rest of the league that they're a real organization and then also

that for the fans that have all left so many of you have left you may be listening to this right

now and say man i haven't watched the mavericks game since then some of you have said that to me

the maves wanted to do that masai jiri absolutely checks that box this is a name that has said a lot

in the basketball world i I know with some fans,

it's like, oh, he had the Kauai Raptors, yeah, and then, you know, what happened? Oh, he kind of, you know, fizzled out. I don't know what happened to him. Maybe you remember some press conference quotes or things like that, but Masai Jiri is a name that people will know in the basketball world for sure. He's a guy that started as a scout, worked his way all the way up to become the executive for the Toronto Raptors, and he did build that 2019 team that won the NBA title with Kawhi Leonard, Kamar, Kyle Lowry, Pascal Seaccom, and all those guys. So the Mavericks wanted that. They wanted a splashy hire. They also wanted it as somebody that is going to come in and be the frontman, be the voice of the organization, and honestly be the power broker, the person that makes decisions, the person that came and faced the media, talked to us about what the Mavericks were doing and all those things. Patrick Jamont doesn't want anything to do with that stuff. When has he had a press conference? When has he been there to

answer questions? That doesn't not seem like a thing that he is interested in doing. And I

understand why, for sure. And so the Mabbs got both of those things in this hire. They got a

splashy hire that people will know in basketball circles, and they got a guy that is going to

want to be the face.
