If you happen to know anyone who's looking for a job right now, or if you yourself are looking, you know that it's a little rough out there.

Yes, the unemployment rate is relatively low, but the rate of hiring has been on a downward trend for a few years now.

And the most recent jobs report, the one for August, showed way fewer new jobs than expected.

And this was after President Trump was so unhappy with the previous month's numbers that he fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

And the long-term unemployment rate, the number of people unemployed and looking for more than six months is on the rise.

And of those long-term unemployed people, a larger and larger share have college degrees.

According to data from the University of Chicago, about a third of the long-term unemployed or college-educated, which is a sizable increase from a decade ago.

This week, we're hearing from people who fall into that camp, specifically younger people who are

early career and thought they did all the right things in order to secure good-paying office jobs.

And these are people who don't always have networks built up contacts who can help them get their first shot or their next shot

when opportunities they thought they'd secured go away. Many of them instead are left to apply

for job after job after job alone.

And it's left them disillusioned and exhausted.
