0:11.0	And I'm Patrick Miller. Right now now we're learning how to follow Jesus by working our way through the gospel of Luke
0:19.0	We've talked before on 10 minute Bible talks about how Christians and non-Christians alike often misunderstand what it means to follow Jesus.
0:27.2	We treat Jesus like a lucky rabbit's foot, one who will keep us out of the hospital,
0:32.3	who will cause Christians to win important sporting events,
0:35.8	who will give us a good family, and who will generally cause life to turn out exactly the way we want it to.
0:42.4	What's interesting is that the wrong expectation the way we want it to.
0:42.6	What's interesting is that the wrong expectations that modern day Christians have mirror in a lot of ways
0:48.7	the wrong expectations that the Jewish religious leaders had in the first century about the Messiah.
0:54.8	They looked for a Messiah who would come and overthrow Rome and deliver his people from political
1:01.3	and military oppression. They wanted a Messiah who would establish a kingdom
1:06.3	by sitting on a throne in Jerusalem. Instead, Jesus wanted to sit on a throne in heaven.
1:12.1	Instead of defeating his enemies, he died for his enemies.
1:16.1	Instead of winning by political and military triumph, he won by dying on a cross.
1:28.0	Jesus is going to go on trial in Luke chapter 22 in the beginning of chapter 23. It starts before the Sanhedron and then moves to Pilate and Herod and back to Pilot.
1:34.0	And what we see is Jesus the faithful witness, standing in stark contrast to Peter, his chief disciple that has just denied him.
1:44.0	When Jesus is before the Cianhedron, which is the Jewish Supreme Court made up of scribes,
1:50.4	chief priests, and elders, we find that the main question is,
1:55.0	who are you?
1:56.0	In verse 67, they ask him, if you're the Messiah, tell us.
2:00.0	In verse 70, they say, are you the son of God?
