Hello and welcome back to Sochiology 101.

Yes, we're starting earlier than announced.

That's because I wanted to give some background to a little bit of this discussion before

we launch at 1 o'clock,

talking about the new material that White just released on a dividing line program a couple weeks ago,

confronting the issue of Matthew 2337, which we've gone back and forth on over the years.

Just to give you a little bit of feedback to understand the background of this back and forth is that historically Calvinists have taken different approaches to dealing with Matthew 2337.

And 1 Timothy 2, 2, Peter, 3,9, those passages that talk about God willing for this to happen, God wanting for the

salvation of people, and it doesn't happen. The way that some higher Calvinists, it's usually what

to refer to as, try to remove the universal love, the universal desire by explaining those texts

exegedically in a way to say that he doesn't really want

all to be saved he wants all sorts to be saved we even read from uh you know spurgeon talking about

how that's putting dynamite to the text and he knows about that old high calvinistic way of getting

rid of the alls of scripture but it he refuses to do that. And so lower

Calvinist, if you want to call them that, John Piper and some of the others, MacArthur's the same way,

where they'll take the two perspectives or two wills of God approach, where they'll say, no, no,

God universally expresses a desire for all to be saved, genuinely wants all to be saved.

But his prescriptive will is different than his decreative will.

Decreatively, he's only, he only has a desire for the salvation of the elect.

And he actually is decreed for the others, the reprobates, the non-elect, to be born in

such a condition that they can't desire.
