What's driving the crackdown in the occupied West Bank?

Thank you. I'm Maliga Bilal and this is The Take. A new escalation of violence has already started in the Occupied West Bank, following the worst year on record for Israeli settler violence.

On Monday, Israeli settlers launched a series of arson attacks across the West Bank,

destroying Palestinian property. Earlier that day, gunmen shot three Israelis near an illegal settlement. But none of that was covered on the ground by Al Jazeera, because our colleagues in the

occupied West Bank were hit with another order to shut down.

The accusation, producing inciting and misleading material.

But the order wasn't from Israel.

It was from the Palestinian Authority.

That's the administrative body overseeing some Palestinian regions in the West Bank.

The order follows ramped-up operations by PA security forces on armed groups in the Janine refugee camp.

People have been killed, some have been injured, there's no power or water.

The camp is in a state of devastation.

This decision by the PA just shows how much it's part of a broader attempt to silence the

criticism.
