However, we begin this morning with a request, as we so often do, with a request for your help. How do you feel about getting old? What do you think the big milestones are? It's a weird one, isn't it? Because when I started work here, I was, would you believe, that the fresh-faced, I was the fresh-faced new kid on the block. And given that, you know, Nick, Ferrari and Steve Allen are still my warm-up guys.

In many ways, I still am the fresh-faced new kid on the block.

But obviously the claim is getting increasingly ragged around the edges.

But one thing I used to think, and if you were kind enough to listen

or daft enough to listen back in those days, you'll probably remember this.

I used to think that I was unique among radio phone in hosts. Because when it came to the question of drug legislation and drugs, illegal drugs, I did actually know what I was

talking about because I belonged to a generation and a socioeconomic background and a political

movement where it was not,

I was not part of the moral panic.

You know, I worked on a tabloid newspaper, but I worked on a tabloid newspaper under an editor

who led the last big campaign to legalize cannabis.

So the, you know, the Murdochian moral panic.

So they're all hoovering cocaine up their noses

like it's going out of fashion. But whenever there's a story to be written about it, drugs are

the scourge of the modern age, the devil's dandruff, and they must be stamped out at all

costs. Don't mention all the cabinet ministers who have confessed to having taken them. Just focus

on the anger. And it's, I mean, historically, it's a very strong populist play, isn't it? You know, it's, fascism always looks at, I'm not for a moment suggesting that this government is fascist. Not yet, anyway, it's only five after ten. It's a very, it's about the depraved, you know. Fascism always sort of identifies, reprob reprobates. There's a word that is just eluding me ever so slightly at the moment. There's a great degenerates, degenerates, degenres. Fascism always, oh, it hates the degeneralists. Oh, damn with those degenerates. Those degenerates, I tell you, they're the scourge of the sea that you need a nice easy scapego, A nice bit of othering. So immigrants, yeah, they're pretty awful. I think I heard a caller to Nick say today explaining why immigrants ruining all the water. Yeah, all that you can't drink the water anymore because of all those immigrants. Remember where Faris tried to blame traffic jams on immigration. That was a particularly wonderful moment in our national pageant, but the degenerates, you see,

the depraved degenerates, fascists always
