After several years of significant growth, NWSL attendances are decreasing. But why is this? And, by how much?
On this week's Full Time podcast, hosts Tamerra Griffin and Meg Linehan dive into the data behind the decrease in attendance and wrestle with the factors behind the trend. Which teams and cities are most affected? Should fans, the league and its teams be concerned?
To help further dig into the topic, fans from several NWSL teams called into the Full Time podcast to offer their opinions. Tamerra and Meg also caught up with Kay Bradley, CMO for Chicago Stars FC, and Laura Petro, VP of brand and fan experience Gotham FC, to hear what the teams are doing to spark interest and retain commitment from hardcore supporters.
Where is attendance in the NWSL heading? And, will this dip in attendance continue?

| 1:55.2 | I think it's one of the things that I think it's just going to be really interesting is, again, we're in uncharted territory with the NWCL, right? Like, we've never had a pro league that's lasted past three years. Now we're in this sort of generational fight for fans in women's soccer. Like, yes, Euros, right? But I think we've seen this trend across the NWSEL this year in particular of you look at the Washington Spirit, racing Louisville, all these teams figuring out how do we get new people into the stadium to then hopefully convert them into a fan. So I don't think we could have better timing for this conversation right now. |
| 2:51.1 | Wow. Hi, hello. It is Meg Linnehan, and you are listening to full time. Now, today, I don't usually do the intro anymore, so it's very strange for me to be back in the seat. But the reason why I'm doing it is because I actually got an email from a listener a couple of weeks ago that had two very specific questions. And it immediately went into our little group chat |
| 2:57.2 | because I thought it was a great topic. So Kurt P sent me this email and asked two very |
| 3:02.3 | straightforward questions. Why is NWSL attendance down in 2025 and what factors are causing NWSL attendance to drop? |
| 3:10.7 | Now, before we get into all that and we went all across the league to try to grapple with this question, |
