| 0:17.0 | Hello and welcome to Coffee House Shots, the spectators' daily politics podcast. |
| 0:21.0 | I'm Cindy and I'm joined by Katie Bors and James O'Syth. |
| 0:24.0 | So when List Trust was the international trade secretary, she received plaudits for rolling over so many of the UK's free trade deals and striking new deals with countries like New Zealand. |
| 0:34.0 | But the one country that has never been cracked so far is America. |
| 0:38.0 | And Katie today we're hearing that actually a US trade deal might not ever happen. Can you tell us about what's going on there? |
| 0:45.0 | So these are comments that List Trust made on the flight over to New York where she's at the United Nations Summit and that's her first international summit since becoming Prime Minister. |
| 0:55.0 | And she was talking with the press pack about a trade deal. She said there isn't currently any negotiation taking place with the US and I don't have an expectation that those are going to start in the short to medium term. |
| 1:06.0 | But this is significant for a few reasons. I think it's worth pointing out though that on the US side, Joe Biden, I think when he met Boris Johnson and one of our laterals played down the idea of a US UK trade deal. |
| 1:18.0 | So it's not come completely out of the blue. |
| 1:21.0 | But I think the reason why it's interesting and has caused a bit of a stir back home is the fact that List Trust has always been one of the people in terms of this government who's been the most pro-a trade deal. |
| 1:32.0 | And she was a course international trade secretary and at the time, she definitely riled number 10 because she fell as though one of the big briefs or the things to do in her role was trying to get the UK US trade deal. |
| 1:44.0 | At the time, he had done Trump as president. Now, he would talk good game on that trade deal. Obviously, when you get into the details, I think you've been a point where he would perhaps want a lot for it. |
| 1:54.0 | But he was pro the idea in theory. And she wanted to push something through and get things moving. And AIDS and Dieter have very much of a different view. |
| 2:02.0 | And would ultimately try and get List Trust to not talk about trade deal under all costs because ahead of the 2019 election, they felt it as though it could be very politically toxic. |
| 2:10.0 | They didn't want the election campaign knowing that there would be one fairly soon with no majority in parliament to be all about chlorinated chicken. |
| 2:18.0 | But she kept pushing for it much to their annoyance. And also in cabinet, I remember writing at the time, there was this divide between what redeemed the weight-trose protectionists and those, you know, you're Michael Gove, you George Eustace, Zach Goldsmith, even. |
| 2:31.0 | And then people like the risk generation of politicians now. |
| 2:34.0 | Exactly. If you're like List Trust, I think that's our eyes to begin, the little free marketer. So they're saying, well, actually worry less about what this means, farmers. We want cheaper food on the shelves. |
| 2:43.0 | And now, as you just alluded to, Cindy, we have a situation where List Trust is Prime Minister. The weight-trose protectionist, inverted commas for anyone I'm offending, they are now out. |
| 2:53.0 | Backbench is all in Zach Goldsmith's case. He has been relieving his death for a brief, even if he now has a foreign office brief. So what I think supporters of List Trust have the access of evil in terms of protectionism is out of government in a way where they would have that effect. |
