Summary

Zubin Damania is a Stanford trained physician and founder of Turntable Health, an innovative health care clinic and early model of "Health 3.0." He spent many years working with patients in hospitals, during which he launched a shadow career on YouTube under the pseudonym ZDoggMD. He is now host of the hugely successful podcast the ZDoggMD Show, where he talks about public health and problems within the medical field. In this conversation, Zubin explains not only why it's so hard to find a doctor these days but why it's so hard to be a doctor. He also talks about why people in the medical field are prone to groupthink, why Obamacare made things worse, and how self-employed people who buy their own insurance (like Meghan) might begin to rethink their whole approach.

Welcome to the unspeakable podcast. I'm your host, Megan Down. My guest is Dr. Zubin Domania. He is,

0:10.3

among other things, a physician. Turns out it's easier to get a doctor to come on this podcast

0:15.7

than it is to get an appointment with one in real life. That's a lot of what we're going to be talking about

0:21.7

in this conversation. And I'll tell you more about Zubin in a second. But first, as always,

0:27.3

just a quick announcement. My heterodox community for women, the unspeakiesie is growing quickly.

0:34.9

We're going to be launching several things very soon. But for right now,

0:39.9

I want to tell you about a retreat we have coming up in February. It's in Los Angeles. It's

0:45.8

February 18th and 19th over a weekend. It's going to be amazing. If you are interested,

0:51.9

go to the unspeak easy.com and read all about what we're doing and request

0:57.4

information. Okay, my guest, Zuban Domania, is a Stanford trained physician and founder of

1:04.7

turntable health, an innovative healthcare clinic, an early model of something called Health 3.0. He spent many years working

1:13.1

with patients in hospitals, during which time he launched what he calls a shadow career on

1:19.1

YouTube under the pseudonym Z Dog MD. He soon became a bit of a star, and now he's the host of

1:26.5

the hugely successful podcast, The Z Dog

1:29.5

MD Show. Zubin covers a lot of subjects, but I think he's especially good at describing what's

1:36.3

going on with the medical field in the largest sense. I brought him on because I wanted to talk

1:42.3

about why it's so difficult to find a doctor and pay for medical care,

1:46.5

and why, in turn, doctors have never had a harder time being able to provide that care and get paid for it.

1:53.9

I should say that he did found a company that seeks to address some of these issues.

1:58.8

So in moments, he is speaking through that framing. But I see

2:03.3

him as a very honest broker and reliable source on multiple levels. And I think this is a genuinely

2:10.4

useful and illuminating conversation. So here it is. Zubindumanya, welcome to the unspeakable.
