To suddenly hear that a country like the United States is offering us refugee status was

a really big deal.

And I was so excited, I felt so relieved.

How white South African farmers became Trump's model minority.

I'm Manuel Rapalo, and this is the take.

Since the Trump administration's return to power,

we've heard promises to pull back from global entanglements and focus on domestic priorities.

But South Africa has become an unexpected flashpoint in U.S. policy, specifically it's

white minority.

It's a genocide that's taking place that you people don't want to write about, but it's a

terrible thing that's taking place.

And farmers are being killed. They happen to be white.

Trump claims a genocide is happening against whites. That's a debunked conspiracy theory.

But the right-wing fixation on the plight of white South Africans culminated in 59 of them,

arriving in the United States as refugees this month.
