basically just said there is there have been multiple reports in the last couple of hours that have

linked Max Scherzer and the San Diego Padres of heavy hitters as well John Morosi Ken Rosenthal saying

the Padres are closing in on a deal with Max Scherzer.

Then, within the last, I don't know, whatever you want to call, 20 minutes, last few minutes,

John Heyman comes in and says, the Padres are surely very interested and aggressive in their pursuit of Scherzer.

But source insists there are quote

unquote multiple teams still with a chance. Those teams are believed to include the Dodgers

and perhaps the Giants, Red Sox, and another team. Mas, what does that reek to you of?

It reeks to me if Scott Boris getting in there and making sure they still have other fish on the hook so that Scherzer can leverage the Padres into a new deal. And believe me, when I tell you, I've lived it. And I'm not even talking about with Boris. I've lived it with agents that when a deal is being made like this, the agent will always jump in and say,

well, hold on now. Hold on. There's no deal yet.

And Haman and Boris are close, right? Correct. And so I'm just telling you that I believe

Rosenthal's report that the Padres and Nationals are getting close on a deal,

and now Scott Boris feels like he's losing leverage, and so he goes out there to the media,

to people that he has relationships with in the media, and he says, well, you know, that's technically not true

because he wants to put on whatever pressure we can at least publicly.

And it should be noted here, by the way, Scher does have some leverage.

Scherzer has a no trade.

So Scherzer can block the deal if he wants.

So, you know, to me, this is Boris playing that card.

But if you're asking me, is the initial report true that Scherzer's close to going to San Diego,

my answer is yes.
