You got Dr. Oz, who's, you know, had in charge of Medicare and Medicare services and the Trump administration.

You got Speaker Johnson. Like, we have all kinds of plans. Just you wait. Everything's on the table.

We'll see what we can, you know, work out. Tonight. A dozen celebrity doctors meet up. that's right. And then you have Trump, who is just, you know, sending out these social media posts that do not make sense.

They're literally incoherent. He's acting like a guy who, like, learned about, I was going to say this, I learned about health policy five minutes ago. He's been, you know, in politics for more than 10 years. I'm convinced what has happened is some, I mean, I wasn't in like, oh, who knows what's going on in Trump's brain? and obviously there's other things going on.

I am convinced that somebody got to him and said,

Hello and welcome. Why is this happening with me, your host, Chris Hayes. The shutdown is over, but if you ask Democrats what the shutdown was about,

they had one answer. And it was one answer they repeated with sledgehammer-like single-mindedness,

just over and over. It was about health care. And it was about a specific aspect of health care in America.

People that buy insurance on what are called the exchanges, the ACA exchanges, those are people who are not in Medicare or Medicaid or have employer provided health insurance.

They purchase insurance programs for what's called the ACA exchanges, Obamacare, the Obamacare website, right?

Which was quite infamous when it launched.

And starting in 2020, during COVID, in 2021, I guess, there were subsidies that were passed that would reduce the cost of the insurance packages that you purchased

on the exchanges. Those were set to expire at the end of this year. Democrats thought this was crazy,

because without extending those subsidies, the cost of these premiums was going to skyrocket.

In some cases, I mean, really insane numbers.

You know, I saw screenshots on Reddit threads of people saying there were a 300% increase

in their families' insurance premiums for continued medical care of the same level.

So the Democrats said, look, this is crazy to let this happen. It's going to hurt your own voters.
