My goodness me. I know they're a dying force, but they're far from dead, are they? British newspapers. Dwindling.

Withering on the vine, exerting a fraction of the influence that they used to exert, or rather selling a fraction of the number of copies that they used to sell,

still exerting influence in many ways way beyond their punching power. But if you thought

Brexit was an example of how completely newspapers can manipulate and influence the British public

into positions of absurdity and nastiness, then meet the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Absolutely breathtaking how people think that they've arrived at their own opinions

about two people they've never met and know next to nothing about, except what they read about

in newspapers who despise them because they refuse to dance to the newspapers tune.

We may return to that subject later in the programme,

although I must confess,

I do have a burgeoning sense of sympathy

for people who genuinely don't care,

which is probably the healthiest attitude to take in some ways,

but he genuinely couldn't give a hoot about any of them.

And yet you live in a country where much of the meteor is absolutely dedicated to covering every dotted comma of their unfolding adventures.

I do like talking about it.

I'm not going to lie to you.

I don't think there are any subjects that I do reluctantly really, except ones that upset you and me.

I do them reluctantly, but in the knowledge that they need to be done.

I certainly don't file the royal family under that heading.
