Almighty God is such a God and has such a God and has such global, unstoppable purposes,

that to be caught up into that and into Him is the greatest thing in the universe. I found this line really compelling. To be caught up

into God and his global purposes is the greatest thing in the universe. That reframes missions

entirely.

It's not merely recruitment for a cause, it's participation in what God is doing in the universe.

One of the most moving books that I have read on missions in the last 10 years is a little paperback from Banner of Truth Trust called the St. Andrew 7.

I recommend it very highly.

It's the story of Thomas Chalmers, who was a teacher of moral philosophy after being a pastor

for a while at St. Andrews University in Scotland in the 1820s and six of his brightest students.

So the St. Andrew 7 are Thomas Helmers and these six students,

all of whom went into the mission field and together accumulated 144 years of faithful service.

The youngest of those died when he was 18 on his way to the field.

His name was John Urquart, and he left behind, imagine this.

He left behind two volumes of memoirs at age 18, which simply shows you the kind of engagement with the processing

of theology and Bible and reflection and what was going on in these groups with Thomas

Chalmers as a philosophy professor. He was pulling these young men together and equipping them

for the mission field in moral
