Good morning. I am going to answer an important question that was asked by

Darren Daly member Deborah Zinger from Fremont, California. There is a

tragic mistake that many leaders or managers make in designing the mindset and culture of their team.

Let me say in advance, there is a wonderful, loving, and well-intended premise behind this question.

But like many good intentions, it could still lead to terrible outcomes.

The question Deborah asked was,

how do you create a supportive, friendly, and family-like culture?

The short answer is, you do not want a family culture at work.

Families are inherently dysfunctional. Why? Because they are inherently dysfunctional.

Why? Because they are wrought with entitlement.

No matter how loud, inappropriate or disturbing,

your uncle or your brother-in-law is,

they will still be allowed at the family picnic.

No matter how whiny, complaining, and guilt-proting psychologically abusive your mother-in-law

is, she will forever be allowed to get away with it. Why? Because they are family.

Look, most people are still trying to get over the abuses of their family upbringing and the people who caused them the most pain in their lives up to this point

are those people who feel entitled to say to do to not do to show up or not and openly mistreat

you. Those are the members of your family. Why? Because they are family. The last thing you want to do inside your sports team, your business organization, your fire station, your

surgery team, your construction crew, your SWAT team, your pilot crew, is to foster a family mindset.

You can't fire your mother-in-law for insubordination.
