One more thing. Dusty May has been saying a lot of really nice things about Kyrie Irving lately, and I think it's a tactic that's going to work. Today's episode, we're going to get into some of the quotes and clips from Mab Summer League game one about Marez Johnson, about Sergio De LaRaeo, talking about some of the things that we saw in there.

But before we get to that,

Kyrie Irving is the leader of the Dallas Mavericks team. He has been since before the Luka Dantra trade, but then definitely the Luka Dantuanian trade, he became the guy that was like, all right, he is the guy that they're pointing to. Anthony Davis never stepped into that role. Nobody else has really stepped into that role. All the leadership figures have changed over the course of time from the finals run to now everybody, ownership, everybody has changed at a certain point. But Kyra Irving is the for sure leader. The guys all look up to him. You hear the way that they talk about him. You hear the way that they laud him and present him as this guy

that is the leader of the Dallas Mavericks. And I think it's a very important position for this team,

a team that is trending younger now, multiple draft picks coming in, Cooper Flagg going into his

second year, Derek Clively, coming back from injury and rehab and all that. And Dusty May, now taking

over this Dallas Mavericks team, does not have the advantage that Jason Kidd. Jason Kidd came in and took over the Mavericks and had this advantage where Kyrie's favorite player growing up was Jason Kidd. They had a relationship already. There was already a connection there. Obviously, he respected him because he was a player. And now Dusty May is coming in as a guy that started as a young assistant in college and then worked his way up to being a head coach at Florida Atlanta University. That team did some great things. Then he moved over to Michigan, won a national championship and then moved over to the NBA and this is his first role in the NBA in any capacity. And I don't think he has the same advantages, obviously, of what Jason Kidd had. And so now you look at what Dusty May has to do and how he has to approach some of these relationships. And the way that he's approaching the relationship with Kyrie publicly, multiple times now, has been interesting to me. And I think it's something that shows what Dusty May is, what he can be for this Dallas Mavericks team.

Because before the Dallas Mavericks Summer League game today, he said,

I spoke with Kyrie recently and actually witnessed a workout this morning.

So before the day of the Mav's first summer league game, it's fun to go to, I'll talk about that in a second.

He said, I went just to workout this morning.

And it felt like I left the gym watching Picasso paint a picture.

He said, during the broadcast, the second quarter he went on, he said, it's remarkable how

heartwarming or warm-hearted and benevolent he is, talking about Kyrie.

And then he talked about his philanthropy going and meeting with kids and all the things

that he was doing when people were complaining that he wasn't going and hanging out with the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers team and doing that reunion.

Like, okay, fine, whatever.

Watching these guys work out before some early games is fascinating.

If you ever been to the gym that they actually play in the Thomas and Mac Center,

there would be just guys that go in there like last year. I remember one time I went in early and all of a sudden on the court was like Dylan Brooks, Devin Booker and like three other Phoenix Suns. What is going on? And all of a sudden these guys are just doing their workouts in the gym because the NBA just allows them to go whatever gym you can get into and whatever gym that you can just go work out. So Kyrie's working out in Vegas apparently

before this summer league game and the and Dusty May was there and he said he's watching Picasso

paint a picture. He also said this same kind of thing during his introductory press conference
