I don't know. Instead of being like a normal explosion

that creates fire and smoke it creates popcorn. I agree it's very mysterious and

this explosion is a bit magical.

Caitlin, you're on to a real mystery.

Unbelievably, humans didn't understand some of the fundamental mechanics of popcorn popping

until Emanuel and Alex looked into this a few years ago.

I think part of it is because we often assume that familiar objects are well known and we usually are afraid to

ask simple questions like why do popcorn pop?
