Alex, it's a simple question with perhaps a not so simple answer from a lot of us.

Why do you love college football?

Sometimes people say that we don't.

I don't know who is we.

That's you.

Yeah, sometimes people say that I don't or that like Godfrey does not.

We've heard that before.

I'll get to the answer, but I think for me, it's, it's something that's been a bit gradual

to figure out over the course of my fandom and media career in the sport, like why I've

enjoyed it and why I've stuck around doing it when there are other things that I could be

doing with my livelihood, like why college football? I grew up in a pro sports city, Pittsburgh,

as I talk about on the show from time to time. Pittsburgh is not a college

sports town by any stretch of the imagination. No one will ever mistake it for that. I definitely

cared about Pitt, football and basketball when I was a kid. One of my earliest sports

memories is repeatedly going down on the track at Pitt Stadium. Pit actually used to have a cool college

football stadium rather than a three-quarters empty NFL stadium that it played in. And I was,

you know, four or five or so. And, you know, you could go down on the track during the game.

You couldn't really see the action, but like the notion of getting to go on the field during a

game was awesome. And that was one of the

things that hooked me the most with college football when I was a kid, because my favorite sports

were baseball and hockey. But it's not like Mario Lemieux and Yarmriyaga were letting me go and stand on

the ice while the penguins were on the power play. Or like I could go and stand in the on deck circle
