First up this week, it's Aula.

Hi, I'm Ola and I want to know why you get spots.

Hey, Aula, why do we get spots? Your skin makes a natural oil. It's called sebum. Sebum keeps your skin healthy. But sometimes

you make too much of it and it gets in the way and even though it's meant to keep you clean,

it kind of makes you dirty and that's what causes spots. You've got tiny little pores across your body over your skin.

They're very small openings through which like gas and liquid

passes. So you're covered in these pores and in each one there is a tiny hair follicle where the

hair grows from. Now spots form when these pores get blocked by well well, too much of that oil we spoke about.

Or maybe dead skin cells, flakes of your skin, because you're always regenerating that,

maybe they get in the way, or perhaps dirt, or if you've been wearing makeup or fancy dress,

face paint, something like that. Now bacteria can get into that poor too,

and that can get infected. That's why the spot might be red and blotchy, because it's your

body fighting the infection. Now, as you get older, as your hormones change and you're growing,

you might increase how much of that tebum oil that we spoke of that you're making.

So it's much more likely that you'll get spotty. So that's why when you kind of become 12, 13 and older,

that's why you might get acne because you're making more of this oil. So there's a much higher chance that you'll get spotty.
