I'm Arthur, and I'm a bald eagle.

I have a bone to pick with whoever decided to make us bald eagles the official animal symbol of the United States.

I mean, sure, we're big majestic-looking birds who soar over forests and canyons, blah, blah, blah. Do you know how much pressure we're under to uphold the image? Seriously. Some days, I just don't have it in me to perch stoically, feathers gleaming. Sometimes, I just don't have it in me to perch stoically, feathers gleaming. Sometimes, I just want to roll out of the nest without preening,

grab a fish from the river, and chill out.

There's a lot of hype around us, eagles, that isn't always true, too.

I mean, for one thing, have you ever heard an eagle scream in a movie? I got news for you. That's not what we sound like. That's a red-tailed

hawk. Human movie-making types thought it sounded a lot fiercer than our actual calls.

And another thing. Bald eagles aren't even bald. Our heads are fully covered in feathers.

Thank you very much. Humans are the ones who go bald. No idea how that works either.

One of my human friends was just asking about this too.

Humans are mammals, and that means that we have hair over our entire body, except for our lips,

the palms of our hands, and the souls of our feet.
