When you're feeling insecure, when you feel angry, he'll be there feeding off the emotions.

Getting bigger and bigger till he's weighing you doing.

He'll make you want to have a go at somebody.

A neighbour, somebody on the street, own a night out, security guy on the door, somebody in the chippy, your taxi driver.

He'll make you want to vent your anger, just cause folk look or act different for you.

The hate monster wants you to feel what you need to show,

you're better than them.

Then, before you know it, you've committed a hate crime.

Doesn't mean you feel better though, does it?

Maybe for a minute, but then you just feel worse, didn't you?

That was the hate monster. The hate monster is not something from CBBs or a kids TV channel,

but in fact is a creation of police Scotland.

That was a video that they published actually a year ago last April,

trying to educate people, inform people about a bill, an act that was coming down a track,

in fact that has just come into force from April 1st in Scotland,

the hate crime and public order Scotland Act.

This act has uniquely, just for Scotland, augmented and added to existing hate crime legislation.

For the first time, hate crimes will be an offence, not just on the basis of race, as they have been before,

but also on the basis of other characteristics like age, disability, religion, sexual orientation,
