Why was Christ's death on the cross necessary?

Stay with us as today's message takes us back to the basics of faith,

clearly explaining why Jesus had to die.

There is a very deceptive and misleading message that's being proclaimed today, and many people

are being misled by it.

And one of the most dangerous things about it is that it affects our understanding and our relationship

with the Lord Jesus Christ and all eternity.

And the tragedy is that many people are falling for it for the simple

reason. Nobody has ever explained to them why Jesus Christ had to die. They just know that he did,

and therefore, because he died, we can be saved and so forth. But there's far more to it than that.

So I want you to turn, if you will, to one of the most familiar chapters in the Bible,

and that's the third chapter of John. Third chapter of John, and this chapter is about

Jesus' conversation with this Jewish rabbi who is interested in discovering the truth. And so when you begin

in verse 1, the scripture simply says, now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus,

a ruler of the Jews. He was educated, who knew the law, he knew what the Old Testament

Scripture said. This man came to Jesus by night because

he was a little embarrassed, and he said to him, Rabbi, we know that you come from God as a teacher,

for no one can do these things that you do unless God is with him. Jesus answered and said to him,

truly, truly I said to you, unless a person is born again,

he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to him, how can a man be born when he is old?

He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?
