0:16.0	I've never really liked church. I didn't like church before I was a Christian. I didn't like church after I became a Christian in college.
0:20.4	I didn't like church after being on staff with a campus ministry for five years.

0:27.0	In fact, I told my wife that the only thing I didn't want to do
0:30.6	when we graduated from school was to work in a church. Well guess what? I've been a pastor for 22 years in the same
0:38.1	church. Over time my perspective changed. Yes the church has flaws, some very serious flaws, and
0:45.2	churches and Christians have done horrible things in the past and present, things that
0:50.4	we should confess and lament.
0:52.6	And yet I learned to respect the church,
0:54.8	to admire the church, even to love Jesus' church.
0:59.2	One reason I love the church is because it's the only thing that Jesus promised to build.
1:04.4	In Matthew 16, he said this, I will build my church.
1:09.1	Think about all the empires that have come and gone.
1:11.8	The Persian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Roman
1:15.1	Empire. Think about all the companies that have gone out of business. Who's been to
1:19.7	a blockbuster lately? And yet the church is still here because of who is behind it
1:24.8	Jesus but it's not just here in America it's all over the world the church is
1:30.8	growing in Shanghai and Moscow in Mexico City in Nairobi.
1:35.0	The local church is the hope of the world because we point people to Jesus because we
1:40.0	have the message of the gospel that turns hate to love that can turn the selfish into those
