Greetings, parish orphans, and retrogrades. Timothy Gordon here. Today I'm going to be talking about

a special topic, which is why does church history, which is backward-facing, matter so much to the

present and even to the immediate future, which is forward-facing? Well, it always matters. Past this

prologue as great writers and

thinkers, including the bard, have pointed us to, but it matters especially during times of crisis.

And we, as you all well know, parish orphans and retrogrades, find ourselves in quite a stark

crisis here in the pontificate of

number 266 Pope Francis I. So what I'm going to do in a quick show is go through six examples,

ready made examples. I pulled these out of a hat. I could have pulled any other six or 60 examples

of church history that prove very much to substantiate the idea that we are in a crisis

and also the idea that we are not in a necessarily unique crisis here in church history.

I mean, this is the complexity of the modern day church.

There are aspects of the church in 2021, which are utterly unique, but there are also aspects that seem unique

and are utterly precedented. And that distinction seems to cause a lot of infighting among Catholic

faithful, among Catholic traditionalists, among Catholics who actually care about the truth.

What I'm going to be arguing throughout the day is that every serious Catholic from the ones that are at the beginning of a serious faith journey, but they are serious in their heart.

To serious Catholic scholars of other disciplines like philosophy or, you know,

maybe ecclesiology is not the same thing as church history or, you know,

a serious-minded Catholic

that's a professional in some completely unscholastic discipline, like a banker who's Catholic.
