| 0:24.6 | but today we as Christians we pursue spirituality in the Holy Spirit and in the Holy Scriptures. |
| 0:31.6 | Before I read the scripture, I want to highlight something. |
| 0:35.6 | During the time that Jesus was walking on this earth, discipleship was nothing new. Jesus did not invent discipleship. |
| 0:44.3 | Discipleship was a cultural phenomenon because the Jewish people had three stages of formation during that time. |
| 0:51.3 | When the child was from age 5 to age 12 they would go to the school |
| 0:56.3 | that was attached to the synagogue the school was called the house of the book |
| 1:00.2 | and for the from 5 to 12 as your child would go to this school this is where the |
| 1:06.2 | formal schooling was done this child will learn first five books of the Bible |
| 1:10.5 | not read them, memorize them. |
| 1:12.6 | So when your child is 12 years of age, your child could know first five books of the Bible by memory. |
| 1:19.6 | At the age of 12, these students were told to go home and now help with their mom and dad's business and continue their life, get married, and move on with their life. |
| 1:31.3 | The best students would graduate to a level two school which was called the House of Learning from 13 to 17. |
| 1:39.3 | And these students were not learning five books of Torah because they already have it memorized. |
| 1:48.9 | They were now learning the rest of the writings and the prophets by memory. |
| 1:51.3 | They would learn it, memorize it. |
| 1:56.5 | And not only that, they would actually learn to debate their position from the understanding of the Old Testament. |
| 1:58.6 | At the age of 17, they would graduate from the level two of this school, and they would be sent |
| 2:03.8 | home and say, you're great, you're awesome, you know the whole Old Testament. |
