My guest today is Professor Scott Hershowitz.

He is Director of the Law and Ethics Program and Professor of Law and Philosophy at the University of Michigan.

And he is the author of the new book, Nasty, Brutish, and Short Adventures in Philosophy with My Kids.

Professor Hershiewicz, thank you so much for joining us on Current Affairs.

Oh, it's my pleasure to be here, and I really appreciate the dramatic introduction and rendition of the book, the best I've heard.

I try and bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to set the right tone.

Excellent.

Now here's, okay, here's the thing I realized as I was reading your book is that you have

children and I don't have children.

And not only do I not have children, but I haven't been around children

for years and years and years. I like, it's weird. I was starting to think about it. I just like,

I don't hang out with kids. I live in the French quarter of New Orleans, which is like an adult

place where only adults go. Like occasionally there's a child, but I don't interact with kids.

And I was trying to think, like, when was the last time I had a conversation with a child?

And I really, I can't remember it.

I just don't talk to kids.

So here's what I want to start by asking you, tell me, tell me, like, tell us what are kids like?

For people like me who just can't remember what kids are like, what are kids like?
