Well, I can't really give a full answer to the question of what do we believe and why is it so hard but let's

give a preliminary answer to that twofold question because we can recognize that the challenge of unbelief today is greater than ever before,

at least in my lifetime.

You have a number of non-practicing Catholics who just seem to have drifted away.

You also have the rise of Islam, which raises a number of questions that I might just be touching upon.

You know, especially when you look at the Islamic view of salvation, it seems to be so much simpler.

Why can't God just simply forgive us the way that Allah did and you know just put away with this you know

death and resurrection of Jesus another way of getting at that is why does it take

three divine persons to save one human?

It just seems excessive.

You also have the problem of unbelief that is coming

not only from non-Christians, maybe Muslim or Jewish, but also from ex-Christians who are becoming increasingly

secularized.

And so for many of them, the more they're kind of getting in step with a secularized culture, the notion

of traditional Christian morality seems to be almost like, well, hate speech, as some put it.

Now, I can't go into that fully either or adequately,

but I would say this, that if we could grasp for ourselves

and communicate to others, the inner logic of the laws of God, we would
