Summary

In this conversation, Carl discusses the significance of good journalism, emphasizing the need for objectivity and balance in news reporting. He critiques the current state of journalism, particularly at CBS, and highlights Barry Weiss's efforts to uphold journalistic integrity by pulling a controversial 60 Minutes story about illegal aliens. Jackson argues that biased reporting undermines civility and intellectualism in society, advocating for a return to factual reporting that allows viewers to form their own opinions.

Okay, so now let me go to back to CBS, Barry Weiss and CBS, and basically Barry Weiss explains her decision to pull the 60 Minutes illegal alien story.

0:46.8

And again, I mean, just to reiterate some of the things that I said in the earlier podcast, why do, why does, why does, why does, why does good journalism count even at CBS? I believe that good journalism counts all across the board. I don't care if you have different views. I don't care if you have a different worldview. I don't care. I'm on the left. You're on the right. Okay, that's fine. If you're going to be an opinion commentator, make sure you say that

1:10.9

you're an opinion commentator, but don't call yourself a journalist if you're not a journalist. And this is the problem with these outlets like MSNBC, CBS, so and et cetera. You can see like a Brett Bear on Fox. You can see some of the people now at News Nation, Newsmax, so on, et cetera. Some of them will just kind of report down the

1:29.0

line. Others will say, this is where I'm coming from, typically on the right. That's fine.

1:33.9

I'm okay with that. If people on the left do it. But what I can stand, remember the Don Limones,

1:38.2

the Cuomo's of the world would try to pretend as if they were just journalists, right, seeking the truth.

1:45.3

Now, Cuomo is doing a much better show. Was it Chris Cuomo, I believe, or I forget, I always forget which brother is which.

1:51.6

But he's doing a much better show on News Nation now, ironically. It's like he's starting to come to his sentence, quite frankly.

1:59.2

But the bottom line is good news matters you want balance

2:02.4

you want balance in the newsroom i believe that iron sharpens iron uh but you want because nobody's unbiased

2:08.3

guys just don't believe that nonsense nobody's unbiased but these people when they get on and get in

2:12.6

front of the camera they have a duty to make sure that they are doing objective reporting, objective truth,

2:18.8

if you will, objective journalism. And that just isn't the case. If you do that, that brings about

2:24.2

civics and civility, meaning, as I explained in an earlier podcast, basically listen, the more

2:31.4

the more that newsrooms, whether it's the producers and the people in front of the camera, and remember the people behind the camera and in front of the camera, oftentimes it's a different thing. A lot of times people may not know this, but unless you're dealing with a, you know, a superstar that's just, especially if it's a radio guy and they do TV, you know they're going to do a lot of their own research.

2:53.6

But some people in front of the cameras don't.

2:55.7

They rely on producers to kind of do the work for them, read the teleprompters, so on, so on, et cetera.
